Towcester’s Countrywide store wants local dog owners to help with a nationwide study about the exercise habits of country dogs.

Dog owners are invited to complete a short survey detailing their dog’s breed and weight, time spent exercising, nature of the exercise and estimated distance covered.

Pet expert at Countrywide, Jacob Sutton, said: “There has been a lot of concern recently about dog obesity, and getting the right amount of exercise is of course crucial to a dog’s health and wellbeing – but what is the reality for different breeds? Guidelines vary from a minimum of nine miles for a husky and six miles for a Labrador or spaniel to three miles for a Bassett hound or whippet.

“We have decided to run a nationwide survey to try and understand more about dog exercise patterns and we will be publishing the results later in the spring.”

All participants will be entered into a draw with a chance to win a G-Paws GPS data recorder, to track and log just how far your dog is going, and a year’s supply of dog food.

The survey can be completed online at countrywidefarmers.co.uk or in store.
