More than 50 cancer survivors were among 287 people to help raise £36,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The Relay For Life event at Bourton Meadow Academy saw 15 teams join the 24-hour event as a celebration of their fundraising efforts.

Members of each team took it in turns to walk around the track for the duration of the relay while the others enjoyed music and dancing from the likes of Jimmy Brewer, Off The Hook, Glee Club UK and the Winslow Concert Band.

Along with the 55 survivors, there were 20 care givers and 96 were aged under 18 who all began the event at noon on Saturday.

Event chairman Aimee Britton said: “It went better than I could ever have dreamt. It was brilliant.

“We were a bit worried at first as 15 teams is a bit of a drop but the teams were much bigger so we had the same number as recent years.

“A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped and to the entertainers who all gave up their time for free.”

The total stands at £36,000 but there are six more weeks to donate before a grand total is announced.
