Adstock farmer Jo Nicholson is giving a talk entitled The Afghan Archers to the Swan and Pen Literary Society on Monday, May 12.

The talk, at 7.30pm at the Sunley Lecture Theatre, in the University of Buckingham’s Chandos Road Building, will centre on a radio programme that was devised and written to encourage Pashto farmers to adopt more productive agricultural techniques and to think about growing alternative crops to the poppy.

Mr Nicholson will also describe the geography, history and culture of the region in which the show was based.

Now working on the family farm in Adstock, for 13 years he was in the armed forces as a linguist and intelligence officer, with multiple operational tours in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
