Britain’s most popular soprano, Lesley Garrett CBE, is performing with the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Carlo Ponti at the official opening of Stowe School’s new music school on Friday, May 23.
Also performing at the concert will be former Stowe School student and award-winning pianist Craig Greene, one of the most prodigious musical talents to emerge from Stowe in recent years.
The gala concert also celebrates Stowe’s affiliation with Steinway, as an ‘all-Steinway school’.
The evening will be introduced by another Old Stoic, the distinguished broadcaster and Emmy, Brit and BAFTA award-winning composer of choral music, stage musicals, film and TV scores, Howard Goodall.
The Russian National Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest orchestras, and this will be their only UK performance in 2014.
Conductor Carlo Ponti is known for the interpretive depth of his work.
Acclaimed operatic soprano Lesley Garrett will perform with the orchestra and Craig Greene will also perform.
The memorable evening will bring together the best of British and Russian music, from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1 and excerpts from The Nutcracker to Elgar’s Nimrod.
Ticket holders are encouraged to make the most of Stowe’s beautiful landscape and take a picnic to enjoy on the South Front before the performance.
