The world premiere stage adaptation of First World War novel Regeneration is taking place at Royal & Derngate.

As Britain commemorates the centenary of the Great War, Pat Barker’s haunting, Booker-nominated novel has been adapted by playwright Nicholas Wright.

The show follows poet and soldier Siegfried Sassoon who has been institutionalised to undermine his public disapproval of the war.

It has been described by critics as a ‘compellingly compassionate look at a nihilistic war and the devastating effect it had on a generation of young men’.

The production, which runs from August 29 to September 20, is directed by former Associate Director of Royal & Derngate, Simon Godwin.

His recent work includes Strange Interlude at London’s National Theatre.

Regeneration provides the centrepiece to a range of Great war centenary events, in collaboration with Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.
