Moreton Road decision ‘a kick in the stomach for localism’

Maids Moreton residents have slammed a decision by planners to allow a new 80-home development by Bellway Homes on Moreton Road.

The decision was made by AVDC’s strategic development committee on Wednesday.

A previous similar application by Bellway for the site was refused by AVDC, but allowed by the inspector at appeal.

AVDC had originally decided to challenge that decision in the High Court, but will not now be continuing with that challenge.

Maids Moreton campaigner David Child said: “I’m absolutely disgusted.

“Whatever happened to localism?”

Maids Moreton resident Jon Harvey said: “Localism in Aylesbury Vale was kicked in the stomach.”

Committee chairman Michael Edmonds said: “The only basis for the council challenging the previous appeal in the courts was that the inspector had not correctly applied the South East Plan (SEP). With the revocation of the SEP that position has changed.

“The Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan has not yet reached a stage where this can be given any weight in making the decision and government advice is clear that we cannot refuse such schemes on the basis of prematurity against the emerging Neighbourhood Plan.

“Whilst the continuing concerns of the community can be understood, there was no reason that could be justified for us to be able to withhold planning permission.”
