Much-loved couple die in crash tragedy
TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Brackley couple who died in a road collision near Bicester as they returned home from a family event.
Ann and Bill Horwood, who moved to Brackley in the mid-1990s, lost their
lives when their Toyota Corolla was involved in a collision with a Hyundai Coupe on the A41 between Bicester and Aylesbury at around 6.40pm on Sunday evening.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 28-year-old man from Chipping Norton who has been named as Matthew Godfrey, also died in the collision. A woman travelling in the Hyundai suffered serious injuries, while a boy and a girl in the same car were treated for minor injuries.
The road was closed until around 11.30pm, and Thames Valley Police has
appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
Mr and Mrs Horwood's daughter, former Brackley mayoress Elaine Dixon, has written a tribute together with her brothers.
The tribute said: "Ann and Bill tragically lost their lives on the evening of Sunday, July 18, while travelling back from a family event in
Essex.
"The family are totally devastated by their loss, but are drawing great comfort from the support and kind thoughts received from many well-wishers.
"Ann and Bill moved to Brackley 15 years ago to be close to their family but soon became a firm part of the community in their own right.
"Both were well-loved and active members of various organisations, from which many tributes have been received.
"Ann and Bill were always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and could regularly be seen around the town supporting local events.
"Ann loved her crafts which included knitting, cross-stitch and painting the occasional watercolour. Bill could always be found in his
garage working on his latest project and was an expert at fixing the impossible.
"Both loved car-booting at which they raised funds for local charities and their holiday funds. Although they were both retired, Bill still kept himself active in his part-time job at a local Brackley company."
The funeral for Mr and Mrs Horwood is being arranged for Friday, July 30.
