A mum who makes handbags and purses out of books has launched her own website to sell them.
Kate Lowe, 49, is a graphic designer but she began experimenting with book covers at her home seven months ago.
She is now selling the handbags and purses made from stories including Harry Potter, Treasure Island and Sherlock Holmes.
Kate, from Tingewick, who has two daughters Tilly, 21, and Lizzie, 14, and a son Charlie, 16, said: “They all think I’m crazy.
“But I’d go full-time tomorrow if I could. The bags are quirky, a bit different.”
Kate said her husband William, 49, helps secure stalls at craft fairs and they are currently gearing up to exhibit the bags at Blenheim Palace Flower Show next month.
Kate said: “It’s not long now. I am nervous but excited and I think I’ll need about 200 book handbags and purses for the event.”
Kate rebinds the pages in fabric or turns them into papier mache to build shelves to display her bags from.
She finds the books in charity shops and said her most popular handbag at the moment is crafted from Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice.
Kate said: “They just have to be a good length and something you’d like to carry around with you as a bag.”
With orders from Italy and America, Kate is excited about the future and welcomes new covers from customers who would like to see their favourite stories transformed.
