A KEEN gardener whose plants and flowers kept people visiting the Buckingham Hospital smiling for years has finally received national recognition.
John Mullis, of Thornhill Estate, in Thornborough, has one of three of the best gardens in the country according to the Daily Mirror.
Mr Mullis, who used to be the gardener at Buckingham Hospital, entered his front garden into the national newspaper’s Top of the Plots competition and television gardener, Diarmuid Gavin, chose his garden alongside the gardens of Christine O’Leary of Peckham and Ruth Brock, of Banbury, as one of the best front gardens.
Mr Gavin said of Mr Mullis’ garden: “Outside the green picket fence lies a row of golden marigolds. Inside regimented lines, the blue and white of alyssum and lobelia create a border, then multiple colours of fibrous begonias, salvias, busy lizzies and petunias vie for attention.”
