New shared council chief set for new role

THE appointment of a new chief executive to Cherwell District Council and South Northants Council is expected to be ratified next week.

Sue Smith is expected to become the first shared chief executive and head of paid service at the councils when she is recommended for the role next week.

Her career in local government spans 30 years and has seen her hold posts at Lichfield District Council and Harborough District Council in Leicestershire, where she is currently the chief executive.

In a joint statement, the leaders of Cherwell District and South Northants Council, Councillors Barry Wood and Mary Clarke said: “We are delighted to recommend the appointment of Sue Smith to the post of shared chief executive.

“Her appointment coincides with a period of great change and we are confident that she will provide first class leadership across both councils at a time when it is needed most.”

Mrs Smith said: “I am delighted to have been selected to lead both councils and look forward to working with the councillors, staff and many partners across the districts to ensure we continue to provide excellent services to residents and businesses.”

Sue to expected to start her new role in mid-May.
