The University of Buckingham’s Christopher Woodhead will swap books for bikes as he sets off on the 350-mile Big Battlefield Bike Ride in aid of Help for Heroes next month.
Mr Woodhead, from North Aston near Bicester, is managing director of the University of Buckingham Press.
Setting off from Paris on May 27, Mr Woodhead will join hundreds of riders including wounded soldiers on a route taking in several major battlefields of the First and Second World Wars.
Mr Woodhead aims to raise £3,000 on the six-day ride.
He said: “I think the nation should help to look after wounded soldiers. The soldiers have lots of stories to tell about their horrific experiences. It will be a physical and emotional roller coaster.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet all sorts of people. We will stop at all the war memorials we pass in France. A lot of people have fallen locally so I am doing this for them too.”
The ride will end in London on June 2, with participants laying a wreath on the Cenotaph.
