Top performing pupils in Northamptonshire are celebrating after their tiny village school was ranked eighth highest in the country in a league table of SATs results.

Helmdon Primary School near Brackley made the top ten for its results in the Key Stage Two exams out of 21,310 schools in England.

The English primary league tables, published by the Daily Telegraph, also ranked Helmdon as the top performing primary school in Northamptonshire.

Head teacher Julie Crouch said: “We are very proud of these results which highlight the academic achievements of our pupils.

“We promote a safe, happy and caring environment at Helmdon Primary School where children grow and develop.

“Our aim is to encourage independence and resilience in order to help every child achieve their full potential.”

Chair of the board of governors David Toman, said: “Helmdon Primary School consistently produces some fantastic SATs results, which is testimony to the dedication and excellence of all the Helmdon staff and pupils. We are very proud of every one of them.”

Parent Kathryn Crawford,said: “I find it extremely reassuring to know that all the children at Helmdon Primary School have the opportunity to excel academically in what I know is also a very enriching and nurturing environment.”
