FARMING MATTERS: Judging at the YFC rally
Young farmers from throughout the county were asked to produce an A4 poster to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday party, and there were some sparkling entries with colour themes of red, white and blue, interesting graphics and good clear pictures of her Majesty.
This year I was assisted by a steward which was rather nice, and it wasn’t too difficult to decide who the winner should be - Emma Weaver from Wycombe YFC created a lovely colourful poster. Second place went to the Newport Pagnell club, third to Aylesbury, fourth to Princes Risborough, fifth to Aylesbury, fifth to Edgcott and Winslow and sixth to Buckingham.

Hide AdI always see loads of people that I know at the rally, including lots of relatives, so its a sociable day out, and this year my husband’s cousin, Peter Lear, was the show chairman.
Being a judge meant I was treated to lunch, which was rather scrumptious, and I found myself sitting next to a pig farmer and his wife from Oxfordshire YFC who had been invited to be a judge and a steward. I know nothing about pigs, and so it was a great opportunity to learn a little about boars, sows, gilts, piglets and the rearing and breeding of them.
