'Play safe' warning for town's children

CHILDREN are being warned to choose where they play carefully following the removal of a dangerous tree house.

The tree house was removed recently from a mature tree near Brackley Rugby Club which overhangs Halse Road and is very close to a power

cable.

Sue Crouch, clerk of Brackley Town Council said a member of the public had told them about the tree house and that they were obliged to act.

Mrs Crouch said there was the potential that branches or even a child could fall on to the road. She added: "Mums and dads need to be aware of

where their children are during the holidays.

"Unfortunately we had to be the kill joys. One of the trees overhangs Halse Road, it's quite large and very close to a power cable. As a parent I wouldn't be happy about it, I do let my children play in

trees but that is the wrong place."

Suzanne Make of Heron Drive walks her dog in the area everyday and saw workmen remove the tree house and cut back some branches.

She said: "It was quite impressive, it looked like they'd spent quite a long time building it with little wooden steps.

"There was a group of three of four boys about 10 or 11 years old who built it. When the council came to remove it a little boy came out and he was horrified. It is a shame it's something we all did when we were young."

Meanwhile the council have also asked for an independent review of proposals to remove trees growing underneath power cables extending north from the nearby Falcon Way play area.

Electricity company E.ON has written to the council proposing the immediate removal of the trees to ensure adequate clearance from the

cables.

Local businesses and homeowners will be warned of one days interruption in the power supply when the work is carried out.

However on Monday, July 19 several members of the town council's direct responsibilities and general purposes committee opposed the loss

of the trees.

After the meeting committee chairman Luke Ross, said: "We are going to have an independent site survey to ensure the minimal work necessary

is carried out in conjunction with E.ON because this is primarily a health and safety issue."
