A CHARITY that aims to help re-offending by released prisoners, and so reduce the number of victims of crime, celebrates its 40th birthday on Thursday, October 13, with a a special event at Grendon prison, including a programme of music, drama, poetry and art devised by prisoners.

For four decades, Bucks Association for the Care of Offenders (BACO) has worked to support prisoners in Bucks’ four prisons, their families and those on probation. Small grants have helped many offenders back into employment, improved their qualifications and assisted their partners and families in need.

A Prisoner Support Service has run for 10 years at HMP Springhill, and was extended eight years ago to HMP Grendon, with BACO volunteers meeting prisoners, one-to-one, on a monthly basis.
