After months of apparent inactivity, a yellow planning notice went up this week on Buckingham’s Well Street Centre.

The day centre was decommissioned and boarded up by Bucks County Council a year ago, as part of the county council’s plans for the transformation of day services across the county.

Due to reopen in autumn 2014, the revamped Well Street Centre will become one of six new Day Opportunity Centres in the county, where day services will be provided for those people with the highest level of need.

The plans for a redesign of the Wesll Street Centre, currently before Aylesbury Vale District Council, aim to address such issues as lack of space for wheelchairs to manoeuvre, lack of toilet facilities for clients with severe and critical needs and level access to private garden space.

Plans will involve the removal of three existing ramps, first-floor roof structure of the corridor, ground-floor lobby and the removal of four bay windows.
