Proposals for community shelter in Winslow to be decided today

AN application to build a community shelter on Lowndes Way in Winslow was due to be decided today, Thursday.

Winslow Town Council submitted plans to build a sheltered meeting place for the local community to Aylesbury Vale District Council, whose officers have recommended the proposal be approved.

If approved, the shelter would be placed on land next to a cycle path linking Piccadilly Mews and Cricketers Row.

Five letters and a petition containing 188 signatures opposing the proposal have been sent to the council, with concerns including noise and disturbance to nearby homes, lack of supervision, the potential for vandalism and damage to the shelter and nearby properties and users of the footpath being intimidated.

A report from council officers says: “It is considered the proposed shelter would offer a useful and much needed community facility.

“Whilst the proposed location of the shelter is not considered ideal in terms of best practice guidance, it is supported by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team and considered to be better than the alternative locations available.”
