MP for Buckingham John Bercow will cut the ribbon to officially open the restored section of the Buckingham’s 212-year-old canal at 2.15pm on Saturday.

Disused since 1964, the 400m length of the Buckingham Arm of the Grand Union Canal at Bourton Meadow has been relined, rewatered and replanted at a cost of about £95,000, thanks to grants from WREN, Aylesbury Vale Community Chest, and the Local Area Forum) and the hard work of volunteers from Buckingham Canal Society.

At 2pm a specially built canoe will be the first recorded craft to navigate the newly opened canal section since the last working boat left from the Deanshanger Wharf in 1932.

Buckingham Brewery will also be in attendance with its specially branded beer, Buckingham Canal Water.
