The new-look gym at The Swan Pool in Buckingham officially opened on Monday.

The chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council Cllr Jenny Bloom cut the ribbon to mark the completion of the revamp at the gym which has been kitted out with the latest cardio equipment featuring internet enabled interactive screens.

A new resistance training area and free weights section has also been added.

Councillor Angela Macpherson, the district council cabinet member for leisure, communities and civic amenities said: “The new state of the art equipment and additional space to exercise creates even more choice and opportunities for local people to stay healthy and active.

“I know the local community will be delighted to have access to such fantastic facilities.”

The updated gym is part of a £2.6 million revamp of the pool and leisure centre in London Road.

Work on the changing village is underway and involves a complete refurbishment of the area from new floor tiles and the sauna through to lockers and changing cubicles.

A new and separate dry side changing area has already been installed.

Further work includes the addition of a new two-storey climbing facility, a multi-use studio for a range of fitness classes and a purpose built crèche.

James Ewart, Everyone Active’s general manager said: “We are looking forward to sharing our new and improved centre with the community.

“We have listened to feedback from our members and have worked hard to create an ultimate fitness destination for all to enjoy.

“Everyone is encouraged to come along and trial the upgraded facilities and the new equipment, studios and crèche will ensure there is something for families and individuals alike.”

The redevelopment is being carried out by construction firm Balfour Beatty, courtesy of funding from the district council and Sport England and it is expected to be completed early next year.
