A barista who turned her love of mint into an original drink will go up against her coffee-making contemporaries across the UK.

Ellie Sellars, of Bicester, won the regional heat of Costa’s barista of the year competition.

As well as making espressos, lattes and cappuccinos for the judges, the 19-year-old also created her own speciality drink – Mint Delight.

Taking her love of mint-based drinks, Ellie blended mint syrup with an espresso shot and chocolate and regular milk.

She will now compete against other regional winners in the Champion of Champions final in London on October 21.

If she wins, she will receive a ten-day trip for two with spending money to a country of her choice with a Costa connection.

Ellie has worked at the Sheep Street, Bicester branch of Costa for the past 18 months.

She said: “I’m so shocked to have won and be crowned the winner of Costa’s UK Franchise heat, I’m not sure it’s really sunk in yet! I’m so excited to progress to the next stage and show the judges my barista skills.”
