Residents are preparing to fight plans that would double the size of their village.

Last month, developers Catesby Estates announced proposals for a new 400-home estate on land between Mill Lane, Maids Moreton, and the A422 Stratford Road.

Maids Moreton currently has around 400 homes and a population of just under 1,000.

Although Catesby are calling the planned development Buckingham East, the land falls entirely within the parish of Maids Moreton.

But objectors say the scheme has no natural links with the village and the new homes would put pressure on Buckingham’s schools.

Catesby held a public exhibition at Maids Moreton Village Hall in November and is due to submit an application to Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) any day now.

Maids Moreton Parish Council hopes to discuss the application at its next meeting on January 7.

Villagers attending a meeting of Maids Moreton Conservation Group on Monday night voted unaimously to produce a leaflet to encourage people to object to the plans. It will be distributed to homes in the village, Maids Moreton Road and Page Hill.

Spokesman Lyn Robinson said: “We’re trying to point out all the good reasons why people shourd write in and object.

“I genuinely feel this really is a bad application on a site that is totally artificial both to Maids Moreton and to Buckingham. You can imagine how it rankles with us that it’s called Buckingham East when it’s all within the parish of Maids Moreton.”
