VISITORS can enjoy a wonderful display of delicate spring blooms in Cottisford Church’s final Snowdrop Sunday of the year this weekend.
Running from 2pm to 5pm at Cottisford’s ancient Church of St Mary the Virgin, the event offers visitors a free cup of tea or coffee. Six named varieties of snowdrop will be on sale, as well as cakes, and a raffle of snowdrop-related items will be held.
Visitors are also welcome to attend a special evensong service immediately after the end of the event at 5pm. All proceeds will go to the Parochial Church Council and The Friends of Cottisford Church.
Flora Thompson, author of the popular Lark Rise to Candleford trilogy, went to school in Cottisford while living in the neighbouring hamlet of Juniper Hill. Cottisford’s beautiful little church, which became part of Flora Thompson’s fictional village of Fordlow, contains a plaque bearing the names of 11 men killed in the First World War, including Flora’s beloved brother Edwin.
