A landscape gardener who started his business 20 years ago with just a few tools and a Citroen AX car now employs more than 20 gardeners, with a fleet of seven vans.

Alan Muxlow, aged 40, said: “I started it as a supposedly gap year before I went off to university, and never went!”

Alan Muxlow Garden Design has kept some of its original customers from the early years, mowing domestic garden lawns alongside prestigious sites including Whittlebury Hall and Fawsley Hall, in Daventry.

Originally based from Mr Muxlow’s home in Silverstone, the company has worked for the past five years from an industrial unit on Towcester’s Bell Plantation.

Now, to mark its 20th birthday, the company is launching a new landscape centre at Bell Plantation, due for a ‘soft’ launch on Monday, April 27.

As well as showcasing the firm’s own services, the centre aims to sell everything needed for the garden, from garden buildings to paving, lighting, and driveways.

After enthusiastic support from the firm’s suppliers, the Alan Muxlow Landscape Centre will show products from AGD Systems; Warwick Buildings; A&J Sectional Buildings; Denmans Electrical; Pavestone UK; TBS building supplies; flooring from Gowling Carpets; Brett Landscapes; JCC and Woodford Tool & Plant.
