Local Conservatives were given an insight into the roles of an MP at a dinner at Winslow’s Bell Hotel.

MP for Milton Keynes North, Mark Lancaster, spoke on his duties as a Government Whip and his role in HM Treasury controlling expenditure in

government departments, including the renovation of some of the Royal households.

Before becoming an MP, Mr Lancaster was part of the family business, Kimbolton Fireworks.

In more recent years, Kimbolton Fireworks has been responsible for such events as the London New Years’ celebrations and the London Olympics.

A serving Major in the Territorial Army, Mr Lancaster regularly spends time during the summer recess on a tour of duty, usually in Afganistan.

Chairman of the Winslow branch, Trevor Goosey, said: “It was great to meet Mark, especially as we had both attended Kimbolton School.

“He gave a fascinating talk on the life of an MP, with just a hint of politics.”
