The octogenarian pair, who have lived at The Kennels all their lives, have taught generations of local people to ride at their stables, offering low-cost lessons to make riding affordable.

Reunion organiser Rhiannon Witney, from Lillingstone Dayrell, said: “It was such a fantastic occasion and we even had the sunshine.

“The National Trust were a very helpful and let us use their car parking by the New Inn, which was very much needed as it was attended by around 190 people.

“It was amazing that so many different generations of people attended and some had travelled quite far from all across the UK just to be able to show their appreciation of Mary and Theodore.”

Mary and Theodore were presented with a bench with an engraved plaque and a bird feeder, and Waitrose Buckingham donated cakes and biscuits for the celebration.
