Tickets are selling fast and nerves are at full stretch as celebrities and dancers make their final preparations for this weekend’s Strictly by Brackley.

Tizzy Jones of the Step by Step Dance School, which runs the fundraising competition, said everyone has learned their routines which this year includes a latin and ballroom performance and a group dance.

Over the last six weeks prominent people on the town have been practicing with dancers from the school ahead of the back to back performance nights in front of an audience of up to 200 each night.

Mrs Jones said: “Things are going very well. All the group dances are shaping up, but everyone is keeping tight lipped about what they are doing and they’re all trying to get a sneaky peak at the other groups.”

On Tuesday they had a final practice ahead of tonight’s (Friday) dress rehearsal.

Mrs Jones added: “There’s a mixture of excitement and worry. These people have obviously never done anything like this and they’re still wondering whether they’ll remember the steps on the night, which of course they will.

“But come Saturday I think they are going to be very nervous and apprehensive, then on the Sunday they’ll be a bit more relaxed because they will have one performance under their belt.”

Last year the event raised £8,000 to help fund a mental health consulting room in Brackley with the charity MIND. This year sponsorship raised by the celebrities and dancers will go towards repairs and maintenance of the Magdalen College School Chapel.

Tickets to the final at Waynflete School have been selling well, and Mrs Jones said there are just a handful left. They cost £15 and are available from Mrs Jones on 07986 837119 or Sally Andrew on 07980 945739. For a list of couples see www.buckinghamtoday.co.uk.
