The firm behind the recent refurbishment of Maids Moreton Hall is looking to take forward proposals for a health centre on the Lace Hill/Windsor Park development on London Road, Buckingham.

Following positive feedback from local GPs and the Milton Keynes Hospital Foundation Trust, Montpelier Estates is now in discussion with the NHS to bring new health services to Buckingham.

The planned health centre forms part of a planning application for a Sainsbury’s supermarket and petrol station alongside the 700-home new estate opposite Tesco.

Buthe health centre would be developed by Montpelier Estates and be independent of the proposed new store.

The plan includes new GP premises and an NHS dentistry practice to meet demand from the town’s expanding population and specialist services to prevent people having to travel to Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Oxford.

Alongside the new GP space would be a greater range of equipment, enabling doctors to undertake simple procedures, again reducing the need to be referred to other towns for treatment.

Montpelier Estates has received stong interest in a range of facilities being provided at the new health centre, including a renal dialysis unit and a minor injuries unit, as well as teaching and training space in conjunction with the new medical school at the University of Buckingham.

On Monday, Sainsbury’s and Montpelier Estates gave a presentation to Buckingham town councillors, who said they did not want the facility to compete with services and consultant surgeries provided at Buckingham Hospital.

They also raised concerns over the access and increased traffic volume generated by the complex.
