A trio of 15-year-old pupils were selected to speak about safe internet surfing at a United Nations conference in Turkey.

Harriet Kempson, Zach Da Silva and Eleanor Lee attended different workshops at the ninth Internet Governance Forum in Istanbul.

The Magdalen College School Year 11 pupils were able to meet Mr Vaizey as well as Richard Moore, the British Ambassador to Turkey.

RE Co-ordinator James Allen accompanied the trio and in a letter sent to all staff this week, he said: “I do not feel it is an exaggeration to say that our three students made a huge impression and took many of the sessions by storm, sometimes receiving rounds of applause for their comments.

“There were only a handful of other young people in attendance at this conference, primarily from Denmark, Holland, Germany and Hong Kong. All three of our students spoke intelligently and eloquently with remarkable assurance, confidence and maturity.

“Eleanor, Harriet and Zach were absolute superstars, and were a real credit to themselves, their families and the school.”
