Thousands line the streets for Christmas Carnival
Thousands of spectators wrapped up warm to celebrate the 28th Buckingham Christmas Carnival on Saturday.
Blessed with a clear, dry day, the carnival marked the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year with a theme of Christmas Through The Commonwealth.
Crowds up to six people deep lined pavements through the town centre to watch the colourful procession of floats, walking groups, marching bands and vintage vehicles.
Clowns from Circus Unlimited and MK Dons mascots Donny and Mooie added to the carnival atmosphere.
The cup for best float went to first-time entrants Buckingham Evangelical Church, while the top prize for adult walking group went to St Edmund’s Church in Maids Moreton, and the best junior walking group went to the Buckingham Rainbows.
But the Best in Parade Cup was reserved for junior float winners, the Maids Moreton Scouts.
The event has been organised each year by Buckingham residents Steve and Rosemary Heywood.
Mr Heywood said: “Overall, we were very happy with the carnival and everyone really seemed to like it.
“All the comments we had were from people saying how good it was.”
Mrs Heywood added: “We were very well supported by the crowds when we came into town. They were five or six people deep.”
The Heywoods said the carnival has been a great way to promote Buckingham as a place to live and work.
“We feel it’s done that successfully over the years,” added Mr Heywood.
He thanked all those who who had supported this year’s carnival.
This year’s Christmas window display competition was won by Beauty Box in West Street, with the runner-up prize going to Pasha in Well Street.
