St James’ Church, Great Horwood is the venue for a recital by internationally known cellist Orlando Jopling.

Mr Jopling will visit the church on Thursday, September 19, as part of his Cello Pilgrimage, which raises money for the restoration and renovation of parish churches by filling them with the sound of Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello.

He has so far given more than 80 solo Bach recitals in rural churches which have collectively raised over £55,000 for their restoration and upkeep.

Orlando Jopling, aged 38, is musical director of the 140-year-old Royal Orchestral Society in London and has also conducted the English Chamber Orchestra both in the recording studio and on the concert platform, the London Mozart Players, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

His teachers include the legendary William Pleeth, Alexander Baillie and Raphael Wallfisch.

He divides his time between giving recitals all over the UK and guesting with top orchestras in London.

At St James’, he will be performing Bach’s Suite no 1 in G major, Suite no. 3 in C major and Cassado Suite for solo cello.

Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.

Tickets are £15, including pre-concert wine and savoury snacks.
