A PAIR of Winston Churchill’s glasses have been bought for more than £11,000.

But ‘the man himself’ failed in his own bid to buy back the famous specs.

The auction took place at JP Humbert in Towcester on Tuesday night.

Manufacturers of the glasses CW Dixey & Son had hoped to purchase the distinctive glasses with the help of a Churchill look-a-like, but were outbid.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert said: “We had four telephone lines with world wide interest. There was a battle to keep Churchill’s glasses in England and they are in fact staying here.”
