Towcester news: Historic specs under the hammer

A PAIR of spectacles which once perched on the nose of Sir Winston Churchill will go under the hammer at an auctioneers near Towcester this month.

Jonathan Humbert of JP Humbert Auctioneers at Silverstone Business Park in Whittlebury said he is expecting worldwide interest when the tortoiseshell spectacles go on sale on Thursday, March 17.

Mr Humbert said they come with a written providence and are being sold by a relation of the director of the opticians, Dixey of London who lives in north Bucks.

It is thought the glasses were either not returned or not collected after being returned to Dixey for servicing
