POLICE are promising minimal disruption as Silverstone residents brace themselves for thousands of campers and road closures ahead of the Formula 1 Grand Prix next week.

Officers deployed from the Towcester police station will be carrying out daily foot patrols around villages and campsites.

Inspector Alex Terry, the most senior officer in the district, said: “The plan is for the officers to be visible and available if required and to respond diligently to anyone, local or overseas visitors, who see advice or help.

She added: “Silverstone is a great event to be part of. The vast majority of people behave themselves and we want to help them enjoy themselves.”

A multi-agency leaflet, distributed by Silverstone Circuits, gives full details of road closures and a breakdown of diversions and traffic restrictions can be found on the Northants Police website at www.northants.police.uk/silverstone.
