Mr de Angeli had gone into hospital for an operation a few days before and sadly did not recover from complications.

His wife, Jean, said her husband had refused further medical treatment.

She told the Advertiser and Review: “He said he’d had enough.

“He’d had a good innings and a good life.”

She said Mr de Angeli had suffered a lot of pain in his life as a result of the injuries he received after being parachuted into Normandy on June 6 1944, as part of the 6th Airborne Division’s missionto hold Pegasus Bridge.
