A programme to improve pavements across Bucks will see almost 50 pavements resurfaced.
County councillors have identified 49 locations for the footway treatment programme to tackle between now and March next year.
Work has already started on pavements in Spenser Road, Aylesbury with repairs in progress through until Friday in Broughton Avenue, Aylesbury.
Also on the schedule for pavement treatment works this week is Page Hill Avenue, Buckingham.
When the council’s budgets were set earlier this year, members agreed substantial investment was required to stop pavements deteriorating.
They agreed to earmark £1.7m for work during 2014/15, with additional money each year for the next three years.
Since the announcement the budget for footway works in 2014/15 has been increased to £2.5m.
Pavements prioritised for treatment have been chosen by councillors, with each one nominating two sites in their division for inclusion in a rolling programme of work in the next two years.
Cabinet member for transport Ruth Vigor-Hedderly said: “It is fantastic to see footways across the county getting the attention they deserve.
“With the additional money that has been spent on road repairs over the last few years, it is great to see good work now being done on the footways too.”
Buckinghamshire Disability Service (BuDS) chair of trustees Andrew Clark said: “We are pleased that the council has started a programme to maintain Bucks footways.
“People in Bucks with a mobility impairment or who use a wheelchair are frequently disabled by poor pavement surfaces and lack of dropped kerbs, and so this programme is really important in giving disabled residents the same freedom and independence as everyone else.”
