Police now say up to 13 people have been injured after 40 vehicle crash on the M40 this morning.

One person died at the scene and another has suffered life-threatening injuries in the smash, which happened at around 8am this morning near Bicester.

Six people have also been left seriously injured, and six suffered minor injuries, 45 people were involved in the scene.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the roadside together with the Highways Agency, after receiving multiple calls from eyewitnesses.

Motorists to take alternative routes as the northbound road is still closed between junctions nine and ten.

The motorway is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

Fog warnings are also in place, and heavy rain has made many roads more slippery than usual.
