Children at Greatworth Primary School have received a donation of 200 books for the school library in memory of Mary Rouse.
Headteacher Fiona Toman and members of the school council received the books from Mrs Rouse’s daughter Ruth and granddaughter Gemma Lineham at a special assembly last Friday.
Mary Rouse, of Helmdon Road, Greatworth, died in a road accident in January, at the age of 79. An inquest will be held in August.
Mrs Rouse was well known in the area as the former owner of Buckingham Pet Foods and Cayla Kennels.
Celebrations of her life were held in both Greatworth and Buckingham. A collection at Buckingham Pet Foods, Greatworth Village Shop and Greatworth Sports and Social Club raised £1,020 in two weeks, which went towards buying the books.
Ruth Rouse said: “This seems a fitting tribute as Mum loved the village and the children, and helped with reading once a week at the school.
“It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Year 5 were terribly enthusiastic, they were very appreciative of the books. ”
The school’s office manager and bursar, Lisa Hart, said: “We were absolutely thrilled. The family went to so much effort and they chose some fantastic books. A lot of them were Mary’s favourites.
“Mary was a big supporter of the school. The children just loved her.”
The family also plans to donate to a Buckingham charity.
In memory of Mrs Rouse, the Best Dog Of The Day at this year’s Finmere Festival on August 31 will be awarded the Mary Rouse Memorial Cup and a special rosette.
