South Northants Volunteer Bureau
IT’S time to spring into action with our range of exciting volunteering opportunities!
Below is just a taster of what we have on offer but you can get in touch with Nicola Shaw on 01327 358264 or email email@example.com for more details of all volunteering roles in South Northants. Alternatively, you can browse through the opportunities on the national volunteering website: www.do-it.org.uk.
Please note that some of these roles will require a Criminal Records Bureau check and most organisations will reimburse out of pocket expenses.
Little Help Volunteer in Chipping Warden – Age UK
Could you become a ‘Little Help Volunteer’ to a 94-year-old lady? This long-time Chipping Warden resident is looking for someone who can drop in on a regular basis to share a cup of tea and a chat. If you live in Chipping Warden or nearby and could spare half and hour or so every week, get in touch.
Enthusiastic Gardener – SWAN CIC
Are you a keen gardener with some time to spare? Swan CIC is looking for volunteers to work with school children, passing on your gardening skills and knowledge, at a garden in Pury Business Park, just outside Towcester. The children will learn how to grow and cook fruit and vegetables and be encouraged to take back these skills to their own schools to develop fruit and vegetable plots of their own. No formal skills are required for this exciting opportunity, but a keen interest and ability in gardening are essential. Growing and planting fruit and vegetables plots would be key to the project’s success as well as a good friendly and patient manner.
Club Activities Volunteer – Mencap ‘Gateway Club’
Would you like to join a team of volunteers who run a club for learning disabled adults? Mencap Gateway Club provides a range of activities including social, sports, crafts, cookery, meals out, theatre trips, discos, music, walks, picnics, canal trips etc. Volunteers will need to empathise with the members, befriending and assisting where necessary. You will be part of a team of volunteers, preparing, arranging and delivering activities. The group meets at Riverside Resource Centre, Towcester, every Thursday evening.
Lunchtime Helper – Hardingstone Primary School
The volunteer would work in the school during lunchtimes, leading groups of children to undertake activities. These may be indoors or outdoors depending on the weather and time of year. The activities would be designed to keep the children occupied during lunchtimes and ensure good behaviour.
Some of the children may exhibit slightly more challenging behaviour. However, all the children are wonderful and this would be a rewarding role for anyone who took it on.
Activities might include arts and crafts, board games, reading and writing, homework help or others indoors. Outdoor activities might include sport, gardening, nature based activities or reading to the children.
This role would suit a lively and enthusiastic person who loves to work with children. They would need to be imaginative and able to respond to the needs of the children and the vagaries of the weather.
A good knowledge of activities suitable for young children would be ideal as would the ability to work with children with mild behaviour issues and keep them on task.
