AN Amy Winehouse classic led a four piece band to victory at Brackley’s Got Talent last weekend.

Last Saturday The Room Next Door walked away with the top prize of £200 after a performance of Valerie at the Brackley’s Got Talent competition.

The band includes Brackley residents; 14-year-old singer Will Henshaw, 15-year-old drummer Jess Freshwater, 14-year-old bass guitarist Matt Watson, and 15-year-old lead guitarist Charlie Bullock from Evenley. Will and Charlie have been friends since nursery school and have been playing music together for years. Around two years ago they joined the Brackley Rock School where they met Matt and Jess and formed a band.

After winning BGT Will said: “It was amazing and it’s given us the incentive to carry on with this in the future. We would like to thank everyone for their support on the night and we hope they will keep supporting us.”

The Room Next Door will perform at the switch on of Brackley’s Christmas lights next weekend. BGT is a charity event and this year raised money for the SDR4SEB campaign and also saw the debut performance of Charlotte Tomkinsons’ album Gypsy which is raising money for Emma’s Trust for eating disorders which was set up 10 years ago in memory of 19-year-old Emma Varney of Towcester.

BGT organiser Melanie Coates said: “There was plenty of people and the feedback is that people really enjoyed themselves. I don’t know the exact amount yet but we’ve definitely beaten last year’s fundraising thanks to a £1,500 donation from ScallyWags.”

BGT runners up were Francesa Long, Isabelle Coates, Hannah Bowler and Ellie Hanger.
