A public meeting to discuss improving healthcare is taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, evening.

The Buckingham Residents’ Forum, which has received little publicity, is being held at Buckingham Community Centre.

‘There was never going to be a quick fix to delivering sustainable services, which is why it is such a long and thorough process.’

Donna Derby, Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group

The event forms part of the Healthcare Review being undertaken by the Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (MK CCG).

The Healthcare Review, which is looking at ways to improve future local healthcare in the Milton Keynes area, has entered a new phase, after MKCCG’s board accepted the recommendations in the review’s progress report at its meeting in January.

Since early 2014, the Healthcare Review has been looking at current services, listening to the views of patients, public and healthcare professionals and considering how the area’s changing population will shape its healthcare needs in the coming years.

The next steps in the Healthcare Review will include developing plans to offer more care closer to home via multi-disciplinary teams; carrying out more detailed work on preferred options for the future of services for Bedford and Milton Keynes Hospitals; and working up a detailed plan outlining the practical steps that need to be taken to prepare for public consultation later in the year.

Dr Nicola Smith, GP chairman of MKCCG, said: “We are now starting to explore in much greater detail the implications of possible future ways of providing the healthcare services that our population will need.

“There was never going to be a quick fix to delivering sustainable services, which is why it is such a long and thorough process.

“We understand that it may be frustrating for some, but it is so important that we get this right.

“It’s also important to recognise that the needs of the patients and the public have been at the heart of the review’s work to date and that will continue.

“No final decisions have been made and we will carry on listening to people’s views.”

Tomorrow’s meeting will begin at 6pm with an update on the latest developments in the Healthcare Review by the CCG’s director of transformation and delivery, Donna Derby,

At 6.40pm there will be a half-hour question and answer session, followed by a workshop on ‘How best to involve Buckingham area residents in the review’.

Refreshments will be provided.

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register by emailing mkhealthcare.review@nhs.net or calling 01908 278738.
