THE Winslow Youth Centre group – formerly the management committee – needs a secretary who is prepared to become a trustee of the group, after learning that funding for the centre will be available for the next two years.

Historically, Bucks County Council (BCC) ran the purpose-built youth centre, in Avenue Road, in conjunction with the management committee.

The facility also accommodated Young Farmers, Winslow Playgroup, Duke of Edinburgh Award staff, Winslow Youth Cafe and provided an office for the staff of Winslow Community Bus.

With the recent cutbacks, BCC decided it could no longer employ youth workers or run the building but was prepared to negotiate a lease and support an application for transition funding.

Recognising that closure of the youth centre would be an enormous loss to the community, the management committee decided to take on the new challenge, negotiate a lease and apply for funding from BCC.

It has now been informed that funding will be available for two years, but the exact amount is as yet unknown.

The committee’s intention is to become a limited company with the likelihood of later registering with the Charity Commission.

A business plan is nearing completion.

Anyone who is able to help as secretary should contact chairman Peter Alsford on 01296 713569.
