THE wife of the former town mayor has taken on the job of Rotary Club President.

Jane Mordue, who is married to former mayor Howard, took over from Mike Garton during an official handover on Monday.

Jane said that she wished to make the club strong, but voiced concerns over threats to youth activities in the town, such as the the Youth Centre, due to funding cuts. Each year our club donates well over £5,000 to local charities. This year we supported 33 local, International and National charities.

Two new ideas are being pursued internationally. Firstly, Buy a Goat, which provides livelihoods for poor families in Africa. Secondly, a numeracy and literacy project in South Africa.

Jane said Rotary was a worthwhile movement to belong to providing fulfilment to members.

We meet every Monday at the Tanlaw Mill (University) at 1pm.
