ST James Lake in Brackley will be a growing haven for wildlife as part of an improvement project planned by local councillors and volunteers.
The lake, which is in the town's pocket park in Hinton Road, is the focus of a scheme to encourage more wildlife to the area and to create a more diverse habitat.
The lake's working group hopes to create a wetland area adjoining the lake, plant more trees, create a new watercourse and dipping lake and improve an existing stream. The pocket park is popular with walkers and members of Brackley and District Angling Club.
Brackley town councillor Peter Joyce, who is in charge of the project, said the committee had long-term plans for the area.
He said: "The wetland will hopefully be done this month depending on the weather. We want to encourage more wading birds and the RSPB suggested we create a wetland to do this. We are also hoping it will be a nursery for young fishes. We also had some trees planted in November by a group of pre-school children."
Reeds which are growing in another part of the lake would be added to the wetland area.
Improvements are expected to cost a few thousand pounds and have received financial support from Brackley Town Council.
Other plans for the five-acre lake and pocket park include plaques explaining more about the lake, and the creation of an embankment with seating area.
The town council owns the pocket park, and has responsibilty for the lake, which is owned by Anglian Water.
