Ardley hope to continue winning ways at the weekend

FOOTBALL: Ardley United will hope to continue winning ways against home opponents Wokingham & Emmbrook this Saturday, who will be underdogs against the Hellenic Premier Division leaders.

Wokingham lie in the lower half of the table but like Ardley have seen their match programme hit by the weather.

Although his side hasn’t played since January 28, Wokingham boss Roger Herridge says both teams will be in the same situation.

“It’s going to be a tough game on Saturday but we just want to get back playing football,” he said. “Ardley have had just as many problems as we have so it will be just as difficult coming back for them as it will be for us.

“We are in a position where we need some sort of result and I would imagine our lads will be chomping at the bit to play.”

Wokingham can boast the sixth best defensive record in the league, but the fourth worst strike rate. Herridge’s men have dominated matches, only to be let down by an inability to finish their chances. They have found the back of the net just 36 times in 25 Hellenic Premier Division games.

In contrast Ardley have been netting goals galore, with striker Ryan Brooks hitting a number of hat-tricks already this season. Saturday’s game kicks off at 3pm.

> In the Southern League Premier Division, tabletoppers Brackley Town host Leamington after seeing their recent games postponed. Brackley drew 0-0 the last time they met earlier this season. Leamington are chasing promotion like Saints, but have slipped to seventh spot in the table.

The North Bucks League resumes this Saturday, weather permitting, after a two week lay-off due to the bad weather.
