Bailey-Browne seals win for highflying Padbury

Football

Brache Sparta 1

Padbury United 4

The weather conditions and a poor surface were the major problems for Padbury as they brushed aside the challenge of Brache Sparta.

In an uneventful first half Padbury found it hard to break down the home defence who were well supported by a strong wind behind them. It took 24 minutes before Padbury made the breakthrough, Michael McKenzie seizing on a goalkeeping fumble to put the visitors ahead.

Padbury kept the ball well but created few chances as the half drew to a close.

With the wind behind them in the second half Padbury laid siege to the Brache goalmouth and were soon rewarded as Sam Bearman steered a header from a long free kick from Gary Wilmott past a helpless keeper.

This was followed by heavy pressure which was again rewarded on 59 minutes when Nick Hughes drove home from the edge of the box into the bottom left hand corner.

Despite all the pressure Brache broke away on 73 minutes for Johan Takacs to score with the Padbury defence caught napping. This only spurred on the visitors more but it was not until three minutes from the whistle that substitute Adenio Bailey Browne netted the best goal of the game, shooting home from 20 yards after cutting in from the right wing.

Padbury manager Craig Bicknell said afterwards: “The conditions weren’t ideal but lads did a competent professional job to take the points.”
