PREMIER Division Syresham and Byfield continued their 100 per cent starts to the season with convincing wins at the weekend.
Darren Beckett’s 61 and 49 from Dan Archer helped Syresham amass 272 against Woodford Halse.
And despite a century from Chris Prophet Jnr (101*), Woodford fell well short of their target on 175-4. Archer added to his runs with a tidy spell of 2-20.
And Byfield dealt out a batting masterclass to struggling Thornborough, who lost their second successive game.
Steve Clayton smashed 128, ably assisted by Any Watts (80) and Rob Oliver (65). In reply Thornborough were dismissed for 223, despite Stuart Parker’s 83. Jake Heath led the Byfield attack with 4-52.
Hinton-in-the-Hedges skittled Radway for just 101 to capture their first win of the season, thanks to 4-14 from Talib Ali and 3-14 from Paul White.
Earlier Hinton had made 210-8, with Paul Turvey (94) falling just short of a century.
In the M & P Scott (Builders) Division One, Preston Capes fell just short in their game against Afro Caribbean. Despite Alex Strong’s fine 108 and 50 from Dave Holes, they couldn’t chase down Caribbean’s 263-5.

Greens Norton made it two out of two in Division Two with a thumping win over Silverstone. Chris Bowmer’s 5-23 reduced the home side to 109 all out before Simon Horley (43) helped his side to a seven wicket win. Preston Bissett took all 20 points in their match against Evenley ‘A’. After reducing the visitors to 140, thanks mainly to 4-45 from John Thurston, Preston Bissett knocked off the runs for just five wickets.
In Division Three, Charlton beat Croughton by three runs in a thrilling encounter. Charlton made just 139 all out, but then bowled their opponents out for 136. They were indebted to a fine unbeaten 72 from Brian Taylor to give their bowlers something to work with.
Elsewhere, Gawcott & Hillsden (112) were beaten by Marston ‘A’ (1610 by 49 runs and Finmere slipped to a shocking 41 all out chasing Wardlington’s 189.
A low scoring encounter saw Helmdon successfully defend 95 against Dunchurch & Bilton ‘A’, who were skittled for 40 in Division Four. The star of the show was Chris Lipson who took an incredible 5-9/
Maids Moreton continued their winning ways thanks to unbeaten half centuries from Gordon Fraser (66) and Paul Stairs (58).
They successfully chased down Boddington’s 129-6 for the loss of just one wicket. Earlier the same two players had each taken three wickets.
Darren Trotter’s 46 not out helped complete a 1st and 2nd team double for Syresham as they beat Woodford Halse ‘A’ by four wickets. Matt Cooper, Scott Andrew and Trotter all took three wickets apiece for Syresham ‘A’.
It was a day of low scores in Division Five where Silverstone ‘A’ slumped to 55 all out and 64 run defeat against Priors.
Edwin Williams’ 4-38 was the only highlight of the day for Silverstone.
Hinton-in-the-Hedges ‘A’ picked up their first win of the year despite only mustering 143-8, Ollie Lynam top scoring with 33.
That’s because Braunston Paddox ‘A’ collapsed to 81 all out, Alex Smart taking 3-31.
Evenley ‘B’ took all 20 points when Thornborough ‘A’ failed to raise a side, while the rain was the winner in the match between Middleton Cheney ‘A’ and Brackley.
Both sides were awarded 10 points.
