THE fabulous season for Bicester & North Oxford Cricket Club’s youth section continued as they qualified for the county U11 league finals day for the first time.
The U11s had achieved this by winning all their group matches over the course of the season in devastating fashion. The team went on to play in the Oxfordshire league finals day hosted by Charlbury Cricket Club last Sunday.
Bicester were drawn against Combe in one of the morning semi-finals. Combe batted first and were 48-8 off 20 overs.
Lewis Moore and George Williams each had hat-trick balls in their opening overs and between them took 5-11.
Bicester then reached the winning total in fewer than seven overs with Joe Moorman and Tomas Bacon retiring on 24 and 18 respectively.
This put the Bicester youngsters in the final that afternoon against Abingdon Vale, who had beaten Cumnor in the other semi-final. This time Bicester batted first scoring 81 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Moorman again retired on 28 having seen off eight overs from the opening two bowlers with support from Lewis Moore, who finished on 18 and a spirited knock of 19 not out by Finn Starrett.
Abingdon batted well with both openers retiring. Despite a spirited comeback with the ball from Bicester, Abingdon went on to reach the required total.
The team’s squad comprised: Jack Bailey; Charlie Cassidy; Jake Paterson; Joe Moorman; George Williams; Liam Randall; Martin Moore (coach); Sebastian Fox; Finn Starrett; Piers Walton; Lewis Moore (captain); Tomas Bacon; Cameron Wakelin.
