Bicester young stars impress as Lito leaps to PB
Lito leaps to a new personal best in the long jump
Lito Michaelidou was top of the pops at Sunday’s latest round of the National Junior League (Midland Division) held at Swindon. Michealidou was one of small select number of Bicester athletes that made up the Bicester and Banbury team that competed strongly throughout the afternoon.
And she was an excellent second in the U15 girl’s long jump leaping to a superb new personal best leap of 4.50 metres, which is very close to the existing club record mark. Lauren Page was a little below her mark of a couple of weeks ago week but still managed runner up in the B string with a leap of 4.18 metres.
Edward Burgess continues to make prodigious progress in the U17 events and once again produced a top class effort to take the 100 metres hurdles in a classy 13.5secs.
Burgess also honed his track speed further with good efforts in both the 100 and 200 metre events.
Bicester sometimes struggle in the longer distance events so the effort of Fergus Jones was particularly pleasing.
Although a good cross country performer, Jones has only limited experience on the track.
However he put his winter’s work to good use taking the U13 1500 metres in a new personal best time of 5.31mins.
Jones also gained valuable points by taking the U13 boy’s shot.
Once again Long jump County Champion Connor Wilce was in good form in the U15 long jump leaping to victory in 4.39m adding to his victory in the discus (16.43m).
It was a good day all round for the jumpers as Emily Benfield also triumphed in the U17 girl’s event with a jump measured at 4.22m.
Newly crowned U15 shot putt champion Jess Cherry maintained her fine run of form with another victory in the B string shot throwing 8.50m.
Rhiannon Penfold has not quite matched her brilliant U13 75 metres of last season but she still ran a fine second in the event with a season’s best 11.1secs.
Lewys Jones, who was competing in one of his first competitions for the club, finished runner up in both the U13 B string 100 and 200 metres with personal best efforts of 15.3 and 33.2 secs respectively.
Another relatively new name Rhiannon Brown also did well for the club taking second place in the U15 girl discus with a throw of 18.64m and winning the B string javelin with a new personal best throw of 12.87m.
And the club bid a welcome return to action of Cameron Murray who was runner up in the U15 400 metres with a 60.2secs clocking.
On the road veteran Graham Pickup has kicked off the Sri Chimmoy series with two fine efforts in the opening salvos and was comfortably Bicester’s highest finisher in the latest round held over two miles at Cutteslowe.
