BOWLS: Not even the atrocious weather could put a dampener on the official opening of the main function room of Chandos Park Bowls Club in Buckingham last Sunday.

Club stalwarts and life members Constance and Bill Hunt performed the opening ceremony in front of club officials and other members, who had gathered to witness the occasion.

President John Leicester-Finch paid tribute to the hard working pair, thanking them for the many varied duties they have carried out since the inception of the Chandos club.

Although no longer bowling, the pair, now 90-years-old, still help the club in any way they can.

Funding for the extension to the function room, £10,000, came courtesy of the National Lottery. The work, which started last autumn, has cost more than £11,000, the balance coming from club coffers.

Although the weather prevented prospective bowlers from having a go last Sunday, anyone interested can make contact with the club on 07501 673014 or ring club captain Chris Lawrence on 01280 815551 or club secretary Bob Reynolds on 01280 817954.

Bowling can be great fun and the social side extremely enjoyable.

Chandos start their season this Saturday at Wolverton Park and on Sunday will be at home to Brackley, both matches starting at 2.30pm.

This year Chandos will be playing in their new club shirts sponsored by Niftylift.
