Brackley Rugby Club prepared for the new season with a 31-12 friendly defeat at Bicester.
In a game played over four periods of 20 minutes, Bicester’s superior cutting edge proved to be the main difference between the two sides.
Bicester held a 12-0 lead at the end of the first period thanks to tries from Jake Holdsworth and centre Chris Harle, converted by Steve Risbridger.
Brackley struck back with an unconverted Simon Cave try in the second 20-minute spell following a spell of play that saw them win three scrums and two penalties in quick succession.
The third period passed without a point being added to the board before Bicester took control in the final spell, adding 19 points.
Skipper Dan Spencer first crossed for a converted Risbridger try and then finished an electric run by Dave Aslett, Josh Young converting by way of a drop goal.
Brackley hit back with a converted try only for Bicester prop Dave Behan to complete the scoring by stretching over the line.
